FUTUROSCOPE

French photographer Aurélien Aumond started his career in 2010, his early work was largely oriented towards the real estate industry and now he’s focusing on architectural photography. His inspiration comes from the New Topographics movement (and countless artists like Hugh Ferris, James Turrell, Etienne-Louis Boullée etc.), and its personal abstract research with light, colors and shapes.

One of his latest project is Futuroscope, a visual experiment realized with a neo-futurist amusement park designed and built in the ’80s, in the town of Poitiers – its construction was overseen by architect Denis Laming. Aumond’s rendering of Futuroscope removes Laming’s buildings from all context. Set among perfect lawns, the elements of the amusement park seem at odds with their surroundings. Laming’s eccentric buildings seem alien against the natural landscape. The aim of the series, Aumond explains, is to question whether such neo-futuristic architecture is still relevant—has it failed to represent the future; or does it continue to act as a repository for our hopes for times to come?
