HOUSE Z22

House z22 is a multi-family dwelling in the Seefeld area of Zurich city, core zone since the new regulations. Gus Wüstemann Architects has renovated the building protecting the existing volumes – the project had to be developed in collaboration with the conservation of monuments.

The house is 170 years old, it presents historic, massive stone walls from which Gus Wüstemann Architects have removed the original plaster layers to have a raw state of the natural stone, which never existed. The studio introduced a new typology of promenade architecturale inside the space, where, depending on the social structure, the programs unfold and communicate with the natural stone walls. The built-in light weight structures are plastered with basic plaster and have a rocky appearance. The built-in furniture is made of raw concrete, raw wood and raw plaster. The wooden windows were mounted directly onto the natural stone slabs with 20cm thick solid wooden frames.
