J.Kim FW 17 STILL LIFES

J.Kim brand was founded by young fashion designer Jenia Kim who comes from a family of Korean emigrants from Uzbekistan. She was raised in the city of Tashkent and then moved to Moscow where studied first at an art school and then at the Moscow Carl Faberge College of Applied Arts. For Jenia the most important part of her work is Asian culture. In every collection for J.Kim brand she explores the unknown parts of it and evolves the core elements of traditional Asian costume. Her recent obsession is Korean dress, Jenia is inspired by it and tries to represent it in a modern way. Despite the retrospective sources of inspiration, J.Kim collections reflect contemporary fashion and gives an opportunity to get acquainted with the rich Korean culture.

For the J.Kim FW 17 collection, in collaboration with director Gina Onegina and photographer Eugene Shishkin, Jenia Kim created a series named “Still Lifes”. The collection features clean lines and soft materials in this season’s indispensable red colour tones and check patterns. The “Still Lifes” images show the collection’s key pieces displayed on a chair with typically Korean meals, positioned on her clothes. From rice to Kimchi and flowers, all of Kim’s favourite Korean food is put into context with her contemporary fashion design. This series focuses on the designer’s roots, presenting contemporary fashion while giving an opportunity to get acquainted with the rich Korean culture.
