MATERIAL FUTURES_ #MDW16

MATERIAL FUTURES is a two year masters course taught at Central Saint Martins, a part of University of The Arts London.

“The course takes materiality as the starting point of the design process and uses it to actively re-think the future. We explore the intersection of craft, science and technology and aim to look beyond existing boundaries.” This year, the course aimed to engage the public in increasingly important global themes: climate change, renewable resources, systems change and digital citizenship are just some of them. A combination of social, political and economic inquiry to inform future, sustainable design applications. The individual research projects focus on diverse subjects such as: materiality in the digital world, the future of medical care, sustainable energy, migration in the 21st century, the potential of synthetic biology and more.
