SEOULLO 7017 SKYGARDEN

A former inner city highway in the heart of Seoul has been transformed in a public 983m long park by MVRDV, the famous architecture practice based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The project connects Namdaemun Market with the city’s Malli-dong, Jungnim-dong and Cheongpa-dong neighbourhoods. Seoullo 7017 Skygarden is a real “plant village” accommodating the biggest variety of Korean plant species: it gathers 50 families of plants including trees, shrubs and flowers displayed in 645 tree pots, it collects around 228 species and sub-species in total. The park will include the amount of 24,000 plants (trees, shrubs and flowers) newly planted, many of which will grow to their final heights in the next decade.  The project remember us the NY West Side Line renovation or High Line by Diller Scofidio+Renfro and it’s a positive approach to the city that should be taken more into account by municipalities with such spaces.
