THAW_Timo Lieber

Timo Lieber is a London-based photographer, best known for his point of view of the world: from above. His earlier work show vast, natural landscapes, while his current one explores the human interaction with nature and the complexity of its impact. His photographs have been published by The Guardian, The Washington Post, CNN, BBC, NASA and New Scientist, among many others.

Through his photographs, he tries to look beyond the obvious and invites the viewer to embark on a visual journey together. “Timo aims to intertwine the mystery and deep revelation, and create unique images which transcend the borders between the figurative and the abstract.”

THAW is more than just a photography project – it is a collaboration between photography and science. The projects highlights the rapidly growing number of blue lakes and rivers that form on the Greenland ice cap – one of the most inaccessible areas on earth. “Here, in the pristine landscape, stripped to the bare minimum of colours and shapes, the dramatic impact of climate change is more obvious than anywhere else in the world. In the past two decades, the Greenland ice sheet has shifted from a steady state in balance with its climate, to one in which it is now losing an estimated 380,000,000,000 tonnes of ice annually.”
