Alberto Morell Sixto is a Spanish architect and Architecture professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid; he recently designed Tulia House, a residential property located in Kilifi, Kenia, with breathtaking coastal views of the Indian Ocean.

The residence has been constructed respecting construction tradition and it presents an architectural conversation with the surrounding natural environment. A ten-meter wide staircase enables natural ventilation and connect the two house floors; this area designated by the width of the stairs features a shallow pool, with the top of the stairs leading to a vantage point view of the Indian Ocean. The lower level includes the living and dining areas, the kitchen and guest rooms, while the second floor offers space for three small apartments, with a small kitchen and en-suite bedrooms. In the residence’s interior, the architect has welcomed local mahogany carpentry, including doors, windows and screens carved with geometric patterns characteristic of traditional mosaics.
