ABADE PEDROSA MUNICIPAL MUSEUM

Santo Tirso City Hall invited the Pritzker Prizes Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto de Moura to collaborate for the renovation of the Abade Pedrosa Municipal Museum located in a former benedictine monastery. They were also asked for a new building for the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture. Eduardo Souto de Moura, in charge of the renovation, connected the ancient 18th century monastery to the new building – designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira as a white cuboid. Both projects are connected by a common entrance for restoring the original symmetry of the facade. The building shapes and their peculiar orientation create several outdoor spaces, squares and gardens.
