A former bunker from World War I located in Triglav National Park, has been rebuilt by the Slovenian architect’s office Premica Architects.
During the war, a number of high-alpine fortresses were installed throughout Europe, some of which were transformed into cabins for mountaineers. The shelter features no running water or electricity apart a small solar panel for a single wall-light. Timber constructions and cross-laminated wooden panels were chosen to generate a homelike interior, blending with the sensitive nature of the Triglav National Park. The asymmetric walls are designed to protect from wind and snow, preventing its accumulation on the roof.
