Meeting at Edit Napoli in 2021, designers Emanuele Ferraro, founder of the Atelier Ferraro, and Marco Ripa, designer, maker, and artisan, discovered they share a desire to experiment and a rigorous design vision. They embarked on a journey that, three years later, brings them back to Naples to present the result of this collaboration: INDIA, a family of four adaptable tables for indoor and outdoor use, made of 100% recyclable aluminum. The series, with a sculptural yet lightweight aesthetic, is distinguished by its four metal legs, cold-bent into a unique quarter-circle shape. Providing stability either centrally or at the perimeter, these legs can support all the collection’s tops in various dimensions: from the compact 100×100 cm to the more classic 95×148 cm; the unusual 183×145 cm to the generous 124×240 cm, with a double head position. If, over time, there is a need for a different table than the one initially chosen, only the top needs to be replaced: the previous top can be returned to Marco Ripa, who will reintegrate it into the series’ production cycle, eliminating waste of materials and resources. The designers explain:
Atelier Ferraro: The focus on conscious resource use, along with its ability to transform and adapt, makes India a versatile and contemporary piece… A valuable design is not limited to developing a single item but also considers the system around it.
Marco Ripa: The biggest challenge was finding the right balance between lightness, harmony, and stability. Since aluminum is a very lightweight material, maintaining the table’s structural stability without compromising the elegance and simplicity of its form was not easy.
The use of aluminum and the ability to use the same base for four different tops showcase two of the many possibilities for creating new, environmentally friendly, and flexible furnishings that can adapt to constantly evolving spaces.
