LA TOUR DES CEDRES

After the first Vertical Forest (Bosco Verticale) in Milan, Stefano Boeri has been chosen to build another similar building, “La Tour des Cedres” in Lausanne’s Chavannes-Près-Renens district, Switzerland. The building will be a 117m tall residential tower with 36 floors, apartment units will come out from the structure to enjoy Lake Geneva panorama. The building will be finished in 2017 but the completion date isn’t established yet. As with Bosco Verticale in Milan, the intention is that the leaves of the trees will help to trap fine dust, absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen to improve the city’s air quality.

Boeri said about the project: “With the Tower of Cedar Trees we will have the opportunity to realise a plain building that will have a great role in the Lausanne landscape, an architecture even able to introduce a significant biodiversity of vegetal species in the middle of an important European city. The Tower, also thanks to its shape and the changing colours of cedar trees and plants during the seasons, could become a landmark in the panorama of Lake Geneva, this will make Lausanne a cutting-edge city in the global challenge to implement urban quality together with sustainability and biodiversity.” Stefano Boeri’s Milan-based studio will develop the scheme in collaboration with Studio Laura Gatti and Burohappold Engineering.
