Mathieu Lehanneur is a French designer known in the international design scene. “He is also one of the few in his generation to use his talents in a variety of areas, beyond furniture. Innovatively, he combines design, science, art and technology as poetic-communicative components to achieve maximum welfare for human beings. Air, water, sound and light are his favorite work materials.”

One of his latest installation is part of his Liquid Marble series and it’s displayed at the arts center’s International Gardens Festival – May 5 to November 2 2016 – outside the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire Centre D’Arts et de Nature. The piece explores how light and water interact with the marble surface and it’s made from hand-polished green marble carved using 3D software.

“I hope that, when passing the Chateau gates, the visitor will experience something that comes close to a magic portal, to a forbidden place in so many fairytales,” says Lehanneur. “Everything is liquid in this space, evanescent, enlightened, and yet it is executed in a material that is the one of the most solid imaginable.”
