MINIMALIST CRAFTMANSHIP LOVERS

Launched in 2012 in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood, Vonnegut/Kraft is a design studio specialized in furniture and home accessories. Brian Kraft majored in literature at NYU while Katrina Vonnegut has a degree in Furniture Design from RISD, where she also studied and worked with textile designer Liz Collins. After she graduated and moved to New York, Katrina was Brian’s neighbor before she became his girlfriend and business partner.

Utilizing local and regional resources, the studio is dedicated to maintaining a balance between technological manufacturing and traditional handmade craftsmanship. Their minimalist pieces are detailed with dynamic joinery that references architectural forms and historical artifacts. All their projects come from the same place “We spend all of our time together,” Katrina says ” and we just just talk about it all day. We each dominate over certain aspects of the creative and work process and we’ve slowly figured out who’s stronger at what and who can take over at what point.”
