In the early days of August in Vico del Gargano – also called “the town of love”- Puglia, Italy, it was held the first Mukanda Festival edition, an event with activities related to food and wine discovery, landscape and environment of the area, music and talks with also a collaboration with Altrove Festival and the interventions of street artist. The organizers have also addressed the invitation to Orizzontale, the italian team of architects specialized in Do It Yourself Architecture for Common Spaces.

They say about the project: “We immediately liked the idea behind Mukanda Festival, a group of young people who decide to recover the historical center of the city in its semiabandonment. We decided our workshop will condense this into a symbolic object/monument: a totem. Mudyi refers to the sacred tree under which the mukanda ceremony takes place in Africa. The ceremony marks the passage from adolescence to adulthood. The highly efficient workshop team formed by Vico del Gargano people and architecture students from other parts of Italy allowed us to enter immediately into the country spirit and now we can not wait to come back and continue the reactivation!”
