“Roma 20-25 – Nuovi cicli di vita della metropoli / New Life Cycles for the Metropolis” is a collaboration between the city of Rome, MAXXI Architettura, 473 students and 100 docents from 25 Universities from all over the world. The workshop is inspired by “Roma Interrotta”, a 1978 project by Incontri Internazionali d’Arte that asked 12 architects  to imagine the future Rome.

Some of the Rome 2025 proposals are landscape to avoid urban sprawl, buildings recycle and reuse, new relationship with the sea and the river, urban agriculture, involvement of local communities, infrastructure that links center and periphery. The exhibition at MAXXI – opened until the 17th of January – gives the whole process of the workshop, early stages, analysis of the territory, reliefs and how the proposals were conceived and developed.
The set is designed by each university, it is composed by the twenty-five squares and includes installations, drawings, videos and patterns that interact with the territories peculiarities and potentials, proposing new strategies and tactics for the metropolitan Rome.
