SNEDKER’S MARBLE

Pernille Snedker Hansen aims to challenge how we look  at and experience the surfaces around us. She founded Snedker Studio, a contemporary design studio based in Copenhagen, and specialises in handcrafted surfaces and commissioned artworks. After years of experimentation and development, Pernille has re-purposed the traditional craft of marbling.

Using ink, she slowly creates a pattern by dropping the ink onto water and by layering the ink. Once the design is ready, she places the blank wood floor board directly onto a section of the ink. The ink then transfers onto the wood, with each section of floorboard being marbled individually. The floorboards are then rinsed and they then need to be left to dry. Once dried, they can then be pieced together to create a pattern on the floor.
