STUDIO ANIMAL

Studio Animal is an elastic platform based in Barcelona specialized in interior design and ephemeral architecture. It is directed by Javier Jimenez Iniesta and it focuses on proposals which relate ultra contemporary thought to the habitat in which we live. “The practice has developed a particular reputation for its assessment on the design of interior spaces, ranging from the small scale of industrial design to brand spatial planning.”

The project presented here (2013) is a research paper that comes from an invented word that want to be itself a manifesto:

“Ultraarquitectura. From a purposeful and optimistic attitude, should evoke an expanded view of architecture, in our case study, domestic architecture. The ultra- prefix indicating ‘after’ or ‘plus’. Research makes a number of questions seeking to draw attention to some factors that have been torpid under the weight of discipline. What’s in addition to the architecture? What about after Architecture? What happens to the architecture after the architect?

We propose to study domestic architecture from the central perspective of the user and their ownership of it in time; that is, moving it out of the tangential consideration that had so far, not turn its back on the discipline, but incorporating elements that are not always craving fundamental to understanding the history of the house. It would be revealing a potential architecture below the existing, trying to show that there is a one way trip in which the architecture is left to the user’s hand and he appropriates it in a certain way, or many, but not always the way the designer expect or hope. Then Ultraarquitectura appears: one that reaches out to the everyday, and that find value in it. The house that Charles and Ray Eames built for themselves in Los Angeles has been used as a first case study. ”
