STUDY FOR SCREENS_ Philippe Malouin

The Canadian designer Philippe Malouin holds a bachelor’s degree in Design from Design Academy Eindhoven and he has also studied at the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris and University of Montreal. He is currently based in London where he set up his studio in 2009 after working for English designer Tom Dixon. He is also the director of POST-OFFICE, the architectural and interiors design practice.

He recently collaborated with Hem, Stockholm-based furniture design brand, to create the series “Study for Screens”, on show at NYCxDESIGN 2017. The installations appear in the neoclassical ballroom of WeWorks Bryant Park coworking site, photographed here alongside selected pieces of Hem’s contemporary furniture. Malouin uses surprising and unconventional materials, their aesthetics is more interesting than their functionality. He describes the project as a series of “three-dimensional sketches on what it means to separate spaces…”
