The Alpine Cabin is a project on the top of the Mount Kanin, Slovenia, designed by OFIS, an architecture studio based in Ljubljana and founded in 1998 by Rok Oman and Spela Videcnik.
In collaboration with various structural engineers the studio developed a self-contained shell with a cantilevered form to resist extreme weather conditions. The materials are cross-laminated timber, glass and aluminium panels. The winter cabin can host up to nine people and it’s only accessible by climbing or by helicopter: the unusual site was chosen because of its 360-degree views over Slovenia and Italy and the aim of the project is to gain new knowledge through unexpected weather conditions.
