THE MAINICHI

The Mainichi is a Japanese recycled newspaper with a peculiarity: the recycled raw materials – waste –  is dissolved in water and processed into pulp. After the pulp is covered with seeds that, pressed and compacted, go to make up the sheets of paper.  Even the ink is produced using entirely vegetables waste. In this way, each copy can complete a cycle and, exhausted his information, become again a plant, helping to increase the percentage of green inside the houses and cities. The results achived in an economic point of view are remarkable: the newspaper has gained new readers getting more than 80 million yen (more than 600 thousand Euros) of extra money. Many schools decided to adopt it as a positive role model to teach students the importance of reading and, together, respect for nature. A clever example every country should follow.
