VISUAL MUSIC PATTERNS

Andy Gilmore comes from Rochester, New York. His special feature? His talent in creating pattern artworks based both on color spectrum and mathematics in unrivaled. His kaleidoscopic and hypnotic style can just be described as visual acoustics because his complex arrangements referencing the scales and melodies in music.

To better define his approach I can only quote some sentences from Darren Aronofsky’s movie Pi: “One: Mathematics is the language of nature. Two: Everything around us can be represented and understood through numbers. Three: If you graph the numbers of any system, patterns emerge. Therefore, there are patterns everywhere in nature.”

When he started out, Gilmore used to draw with pen or pencil. When moving from traditional techniques to computer software to create art with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, he uses “just the basic tools and a lot of time”. When he found patterns in nature like petals or leaves or flowers he said that he always counted them. He is very aware of the intrinsic relation between numbers and nature.

“I think about that a lot and I do bring those numbers into my work.” I highly recommend you to check it out!
