The Rooting/Radicarsi festival by DOPO?

Inaugurated on October 12th and open until the 22nd, DOPO? is pleased to present “Rooting/Radicarsi”, a design and urban arts festival conceived as a device for the relationship between the cultural centre and the neighbourhood where it is located: Corvetto, positioned in the south-eastern periphery of Milan. An exhibition, an artist residency, talks, screenings, concerts and dj sets, urban incursions and poetry readings: each of the actions of “R/R” is conceived in such a way as to establish a dialogue with Corvetto or through collaboration between the centre and the different organisations working in the neighbourhood.

Like the recently concluded Fatto Bene exhibition, of which WeVux was media partner, the festival takes place exactly six months after Milan Design Week. A critical distance that helps to think and discuss, without the pressure of that week.

The Furniture Music exhibition, curated by Mr. Lawrence and Salvatore Peluso, presents the work of the Spanish designer Lucas Muñoz Muñoz who experiments by overcoming the traditional concept of craftsmanship and industry. His projects are characterized by the exploration of hybridizations, the recovery and creative reuse of discarded materials. Tizio‘s reinterpretation is a suggestive example: the designer created an identical copy of the lamp from the “waste materials” that the customer receives with the product – cardboard packaging, polystyrene and gasoline – which symbolizes the energy used for transport – used by the designer as a solvent for polystyrene. Also on display among his Domestic Objects are his sound and musical experiments, such as High Fidelity Goat, a sound speaker made of goat skin. DOPO? hosts Lucas’ first solo exhibition in Milan which retraces a career that has now spanning more than ten years.

Lucas will also be the designer in residence during the festival days. He will be involved in the construction of a new sound system for DOPO? The production itself of the object is conceived as a relationship tool, because it will involve local craftsmen and associations.

The first weekend of the festival was dedicated to talking, with various conferences, round tables, discussions and an open assembly involving various cultural realities operating in the corvetto district. Worth mentioning is the open conversation Cuginə di Campagna organized by AAA Milano, which saw the architectural studios Captcha and Zarcola talk about what it means to build in the countryside today.

On the occasion of the party on Saturday 21 October, the new spaces of the cultural centre will be inaugurated. This new space of about 100 square metres will house the editorial office of Scomodo, an independent, free and completely self-financed monthly information magazine. The festival’s closing event – 22 October, 4pm – will be an incursion into the public spaces of the Corvetto district. The Chullu Agency will curate a programme of readings and musical performances in Parco Boncompagni, a green area characterised by the presence of a hidden amphitheatre.
